Below are some examples of both formative and summative assessment strategies that I use in my modules.
Continuous Assessment: Moodle Quizzes
I use Moodle Multiple Choice Quizzes (MCQs) as part of the continuous assessment for Mechanical Dissection. After each practical lab and h5p interactive video is completed, students are guided to answer an MCQ based on what they learned.
Rubrics
This is an example of a rubric I use when grading presentations for LIS. The biomedical engineering students give a presentation on a topic of their choice but it must be about a medical device or a disease/ailment. The students are marked on preparation, content, performance and their PowerPoint presentation design.
Summative Assessment: Assignments
For Mathematics, I design a final exam worth 60% to be taken at the end of the semester as per the Module Descriptor.
Formative Assessment: h5p interactive videos
Students are required to answer questions throughout the interactive H5P videos. These are not graded but allow the student to gauge and monitor their own progress and understanding.
