Famelab
FameLab is the world's leading science communication competition. It is designed to inspire, motivate and develop scientists and engineers to actively engage with the public and stakeholders. A partnership with the British Council and the Cheltenham Science Festival has seen more than 10,000 emerging scientists and engineers participate from over 30 countries since 2005. In Ireland, FameLab has been running for only 7 years but already boasts an amazing network of 70+ science communicators, all skilled and committed to sharing their work and knowledge with public audiences nationally and internationally. FameLab Ireland is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and is supported by Cpl Resources Plc and Henkel Ireland Limited. It is managed by the British Council Ireland in collaboration with a host of amazing partners from higher education, research, media and public engagement across Ireland. In 2019 I was crowned the winner of Famelab Galway and represented the west in the national final. I came 2nd it the final, held in the Science Gallery, Dublin, with my talk "The Swallowing Robot", which was based on my post-doctorate work with MET and Boston Scientific. I am an active member of the Famelab Ireland alumni group and regularly support science communication workshops "Scientifically Speaking" as a co-trainer with communication expert Malcolm Love. I was an interval act for Famelab Limerick in 2019 and compere for Famelab Galway 2020 and 2021. Everyone should do Famelab!! |
